What is online marketing? The Do’s and Don’ts of Digital Marketing
Many beginning business women and men find themselves wanting to market their businesses on the Internet, but often find themselves asking, “What is online marketing?” It’s a valid question that many people think they know the answer to, but don’t. Here’s a quick list of what is online marketing and what’s not. So pay attention, and let it all soak in so you can market your business correctly.
What is online marketing?
- Online marketing is marketing your business using search engine optimization techniques. This means writing and posting weekly content to your site around relevant keywords. It does not mean writing about keywords irrelevant to your business, so please don’t write about Miley Cyrus’ latest stunt if you own an accounting firm, unless of course you can somehow brilliantly tie the two together.
- Online marketing means receiving quality links to your site from outside sources. It does not mean hiring someone to spam random sites with links to your site or doing it yourself, so please don’t do that. Father Google knows what you’re doing, and he won’t be happy about it.
- Online marketing is posting relevant and interesting information on social media that will entertain, intrigue, or interest readers regularly. It does not mean posting ten times a day on Facebook. That’s how you get people to unfollow you. Find a good balance and stick to it.
